Founded in 2011, Charlie's Kids was the inspiration of Sam Hanke, a pediatric cardiologist and his wife, Maura Hanke, a kindergarten teacher. Their first child, Charlie, was just three weeks old when he became the victim of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) and an unsafe sleep environment. Channeling their grief into education for other young parents, they created "Charlie's Kids" to promote safe sleep education in a number of ways, the most recent being publication of a board book, "Sleep Baby Safe and Snug!" The book clearly describes the basics of safe sleep for parents while entertaining children through pictures and a soothing, sing-song bedtime narrative.
